CP on playing defensively
Posted Sunday 5th April 2004
People will notice that we sat off a bit against the Village select last time we met, but that wasnt with a view to playing defensively. Rather it was our plan to try and encourage Village to commit as many bodies forward as possible so that when we got possession there would be lots of space at the back for us to exploit. Theyre not the most creative side we'll play but they will be very difficult to break down.

With regards to our team, Gary Evans has a late fitness test prior to the game on Tuesday and so its crossed fingers with regards to his ankle sprain situation. Saying that I know I have the players here, who are more than capable of covering the absentee and it will be good test for the team as a whole without the Welshmans input.

Evans - Out...Mosiewicz - In
Posted Monday 6th April 2004

Manager Chris Pyatts worst nightmare materialised late on Sunday as FC Vale club doctor, Carl Kennedy ruled out Welsh international Gary Evans from this Tuesday nights clash with the Village select team. This came as a crushing blow to Pyatt, who had hoped for a full reunion of the Vale team.

Meanwhile there will be changes bought in to cater for Evans loss as Chris Mosiewicz has been drafted back to goalkeeper giving Steve Wheeler more freedom to express himself in an outfield position. Wheeler is likely to play on the right midfield role allowing Ben Storey to push forward as the lone striker.

On removing Wheeler from goal, Manager, Pyatt had the following comments...It is clear to see Steve is under confidence at the current moment in time. This is not a bad thing as it happens to the best players. I felt he just needed a run out and this game gives him the perfect opportunity to prove himself and make that right wing position his own...Pyatt later showed his admiration towards Wheelers replacement...Mosie (Chris Mosiewicz) has been in exceptional form during training and shows good strength as a natural shot stopper. Hes a big lad which helps and Im fully confident he will do a good job for us come Tuesday...
